Author’s Note: My Journey into Orthodoxy
Since 2018, my pursuit of Christ has led me slowly and unexpectedly into the ancient faith of Eastern Orthodoxy. What began as an academic assignment became a life-changing encounter with the Church that traces its roots to the apostles. As I immersed myself in the writings of the Church Fathers, the beauty of Orthodox worship, and the sacramental life of the Church, I came to see Orthodoxy not as a denomination but as the fullness of the Christian faith.
This document was not written in isolation. It was shaped through months of conversation, reflection, and shared searching. Along the way, friends, family members, and fellow believers asked thoughtful questions, raised concerns, and walked with me as I wrestled through what I was discovering. Their honesty helped clarify my thinking. Their love reminded me to stay grounded. Their prayers were a quiet strength.
Many of you have already read the longer account I shared about our full journey into Orthodoxy, where I explained how we came to believe that the Orthodox Church is the original Church established by Christ and sustained by the Holy Spirit. This document is not meant to repeat that story. Instead, it focuses on the life and faith of the Church itself. It explores the practices, the meanings behind them, and the key doctrinal differences that distinguish Orthodoxy from other Christian traditions. My goal is to present these things clearly, honestly, and with love.
This is by no means an exhaustive explanation of every doctrine or difference. It is only a beginning—a gentle glimpse into the depth and beauty of a faith that has been quietly preserving the fullness of Christ’s life for over two thousand years.
What follows is the fruit of that shared journey. Many of the questions addressed here are the very ones that surfaced in those conversations and in my own heart. My hope is that these pages will not only explain where I now stand but also offer clarity, humility, and encouragement to anyone who is exploring the timeless faith of the Orthodox Church.
